This year we wanted to include the rugby discipline in schools wherever possible, in order that boys and girls from different schools could have the opportunity to understand and enjoy a different sport which would also contribute to their all round good physical and mental health.
This we aim to achieve by explaining and demonstrating the rugby discipline, where by every player (tall, short, big, small etc…) is essential in their contribution to the team. Thereby teaching that the playing of and participation in the game of rugby has the capacity to create a union between each and every team member which is like no other sport.
As a result of our promotion in the schools and with the support of the Balearic Rugby Federation, we have organized a competition where all kids between the ages of 12 and 16 can take part in a tournament, which will take place on various dates during this year.
The winning school will have the opportunity to represent the island against the winners from the other Balearic Islands at the grand finals in Palma de Mallorca. Interesting days to look forward to, and a great chance for us to spot new young talent.
Our coaches train the teams on the grass pitch of the Mahon Sports Center (Polideportivo MRC pitch) on Wednesdays from 17:00hrs. - 18:30hrs. A short training session because of homework etc… In addition there is a further training session on Sundays from 10:00hrs. - 12:00hrs. This Sunday training session concentrates on the more technical side of rugby and there are more coaches at the session.
